چکیده

Splenosis is an infrequent acquired condition in which nodules of splenic tissue are transplanted in the peritoneal cavity due to splenic trauma or splenectomy (1). These patients have usually multiple splenic implants in the abdomen ranging from several millimeters up to 7 cm in size (1). The vast majority of such patients are asymptomatic and the lesions are discovered as incidental finding at surgery or autopsy (1). Rarely, splenosis may be localized into the liver or in the thoracic and pleural cavity, and unusual locations also include the pelvis, pericardium and subcutaneous tissues. Generally, splenic remnants implant easily on the serosal surfaces, parasitize adjacent blood vessels and grow into mature splenic tissue confirming that seeding of damaged splenic pulp is the crucial mechanism behind autotransplantation after splenic rupture. We describe a case of perihepatic splenosis associated to other abdominal splenosis in the left lower abdomen diagnosed by radiological imaging, in which surgery was avoided.

Intra-hepatic splenosis as an unexpected cause of a focal liver lesion in a patient with hepatitis C and liver cirrhosis: a case report

INTRODUCTION Splenosis is the heterotopic autotransplantation of splenic tissue, mostly found after splenic trauma or surgery in the abdominal, pelvic or thoracic cavity. Here we report a patient with a history of splenectomy after polytrauma with chronic hepatitis C and liver cirrhosis presenting with an hepatic mass of unknown origin. CASE PRESENTATION The lesion could not be exactly classi...

Solitary Perihepatic Splenosis Mimicking Liver Lesion

Hepatic splenosis, one type of manifestation of ectopic spleen tissue, is rarely reported. It cannot be distinguished from hepatic malignancies because of lack of significant radiological features. By means of this case report and 31 literature reviews, potential treatment modalities concerning clinical diagnostics, patient’s management could be discussed. The report presents the case of a 33-y...

Hepatic splenosis mimicking HCC in a patient with hepatitis C liver cirrhosis and mildly raised alpha feto protein; the important role of explorative laparoscopy

BACKGROUND Splenosis is a heterotropic implantation of splenic fragments onto exposed vascularised peritoneal and intrathoracic surfaces, following splenic injury or elective splenectomy. CASE PRESENTATION A 60 year old cirrhotic patient was referred to us with a hepatic mass, suspected to be HCC in a cirrhotic liver. A computerized tomography scan (CT) demonstrated a cirrhotic liver with a 2...

Hepatic Splenosis Preoperatively Diagnosed as Hepatocellular Carcinoma in a Patient with Chronic Hepatitis B: A Case Report

We report on a case of hepatic splenosis. A 32-yr-old man underwent a splenectomy due to trauma at the age of 6. He had been diagnosed as being a chronic hepatitis B-virus carrier 16 yr prior to the surgery. The dynamic computer tomography (CT) performed due to elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein (128 ng/mL) demonstrated two hepatic nodules, which were located near the liver capsule. A nodule in S...

Hepatic splenosis mimicking hepatocellular carcinoma in a patient with chronic hepatitis C

A 51-year-old man was referred to us with a diagnosis of chronic hepatitis, secondary to hepatitis C infection after receiving blood transfusion at splenectomy for traffic accident at 16-year age. He had undergone ultrasonographic examination, and a homogeneous and slight hyperechoic mass, measuring 18 × 20 mm in diameter, was detected in liver segment IV (Figure 1). Contrast-enhanced computed ...
